Women called to service

Although women did not fight in combat during World War I, posters actively recruited them to serve as nurses, switchboard operators, and ambulance drivers in France. 

Women supported the war effort by volunteering with service organizations, participating in production efforts in place of men fighting at the front, and many other activities.
